Luol Deng Foundation’s main mission is to provide means for Africa’s children and adults alike
with access to the most basic human needs from shelter to water, and health to education.

OUR GOAL IS SIMPLE: WE WANT TO CREATE A SYSTEM IN WHICH THE PEOPLE OF THE UK CAN POSITIVELY AFFECT THE LIVES OF THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH SUDAN WITHOUT REACHING INTO THEIR POCKETS. ALL WE WANT IS THE BOOKS YOU DON’T WANT.

It is estimated that 776 million citizens worldwide lack the most minimum of literacy skills, and hundreds of thousands of those including those who are situated in south Sudan do not have the chance to improve this current situation, especially the estimated 90% of illiterate Sudanese women. The reasons for this lie deep in the history of Sudan - a country which has been revelled in conflict since independence, its people have witnessed one of the longest civil wars in human history. LDF aspires to make provisions for the almost defeated Sudanese communities in order to begin the quest of conquering south Sudan’s state of poverty and insecurity.

We are looking for in kind donations of old books, whether challenging/educational, fictional stories, colouring books, picture books or teaching materials. Having access to such resources can make the difference needed to build a safer, more intellectual and developed community.

  We have all heard of the saying ‘One man’s junk is another man’s treasure’ and this could not apply more than it does to this mission. So many books are being left to deteriorate in storage space or burnt away because there is no place for them. This project introduces an immense purpose for all unwanted books in any condition and seeks to help build the mentality of youths within their deprived nation. Books R Us will aid provision for schools by supplying educational materials to reduce or eliminate educational costs.

Whether you’re an individual, academic institution, or corporation you can help us help others.

You can donate reading materials to LDF by dropping them off at our storage space or asking us to collect them from you. We will even collect your unwanted computers and school materials too, and then we take it from there. Your generous donations will go along way literally as they will be shipped to Sudan and will reach schools, libraries and deserving human beings.

If you’re as passionate as we are then you can give us a further helping hand by donating as little as £1 to help us ship a book to South Sudan.

You could also become a volunteer for this project by helping our team, receive, sort, ship and much more! This project seeks hard working individuals who wish to do charitable work within the UK and Sudan.

If you want to really help then you can identify yourself as a collector for LDF, help spread the word and create a drop off area. The internal rewards are far greater than you can imagine.
